Navy ship visits Norfolk before Texas commissioning

The littoral combat ship Fort Worth stopped at Norfolk Naval Station on Friday, Aug. 24, 2012 to conduct training. The Fort Worth is scheduled to be commissioned on Sept. 22, 2012 in Galveston, Texas, according to a Navy news release. It will be based in San Diego. It is the third of four littoral combat ships built.

The Fort Worth, the Navy's third littoral combat ship, outfitted with a Mark 110 57 mm gun, was docked at Norfolk Naval Station on Friday, August 24, 2012 for training and certification. Scheduled to be commissioned next month, the Fort Worth will be homeported in San Diego, Calif. (Amanda Lucier | The Virginian-Pilot)
